Dear all I was wondering whether you would be able to answer the following question for a dissertation that I am doing for my HR and Management degree on equality and diversity. I am initially gathering responses to the question and will then be sending out a follow up questionnaire. The first question that I would like answers to is: What drives equality and diversity in the workplace? Legislation or good business practice? If anyone is interested in replying I can be contacted on rachel_dackombe@hotmail.com Many thanks in advance for participating. Regards Rachel |

| My answer is 'both'! I work in an NHS organisation where there is a genuine desire to have a culture free from discrimination. However, nothing focuses the minds of senior managers than something like the DRC phoning up to ask where you have published your Disability Equality Scheme. Audits also mean that we are required to carry out Impact Assessments and prove that we have done these. The very act of carrying out an Impact Assessment forces managers to look closely at the service they provide and ask questions. This, in turn, will and does lead to a culture of equality and diversity. | |||
