Dear all,

I am currently looking into improving our testing processes within the recruitment and selection and am considering the use of psychometric profiling.

Has anybody used any good providers that has proved useful within the selection process and if so could you please share this information with me?

Sharon, as a registered tester I would highly recommend the use of assessment centres, which include work-related tests and exercises, together with personality profiles (psychometrics) - all of which provide a far better reflection of likely performance than interviews alone.

I would highly recommend SHL (www.shl.com) who have a wide variety of material, most of which can be accessed online thereby saving valuable time. Reports are generated within seconds of the candidate submitting their responses.

You can obtain more information from the British Psycholgical Society at www.psychtesting.org.uk

Sharon

I have recently been on a two day Personal Profile Analysis course with Thomas International. Their PPA is a quick and efficient way of gaining an insight into potential employees, how they like to work, how they are best managed etc.

It is so easy to administer and quickly produces a detailed report which can then be used as part of the recruitment selection process.

If you would like any more information don't hesitate to give me a shout.

Hi Sharon,
I have been using a tool called OAD -organisation analysis and design. It is a 7 trait personality inventory + a perceived job behaviours inventory + a behaviour based job analysis tool. I have been very impressed with the accuracy of it. All who have done it for me have responded well to how well it reflects their traits . It is a USA based thing and is obtainable from a little company called John Fordham Associates in Bracknell UK. Look them up on the web if you are interested. Mention my name!!!

Sharon,

I use a behavorial testing questionnaire from Thomas International called a Personal Personal Analysis. It's not a test and is purely designed to help you assess the likely personal profile of candidates and existing staff. It's accurate to 85% so is very useful as a recruitment tool and for performance management review.

I'd suggesst you call Thomas International, based in Marlow or visit their website www.thomasinternational.net

Good luck.

Sharon,
I second Sue's comments. I have found SHL OPQ 32, Motivation and Scenarios asessments excellent profiling mediums. They reveal interesting personality traits that are frequently "missing" from CVs and interview outputs.
Over the years I have used a number of profiling techniques but for me SHL provide the best materials.
They now have a SHL Partner programme and these partners are local qualified consultants who can guide you through the process and deliver the goods. Well worth asking SHL for their nearest partner.

I would recommend Quest Partnership as they are not strictly test publishers themselves, but are psychologists who offer psychometric training and introduce you to the range of tests from different publishers. I you go to a large publisher, you tend to get sold their tests!

They offer level a and level b training in psychometric testing and personality training. They also provide consultancy support and advice for use of occupational ability and aptitude tests, personality questionnaires and assessment centres.

I would recommend SHL OPQ 32 FOR PERSONALITY.I would look elsewhere however for ability tests , maybe ASE for a more comprehensive range

I would also recommend SHL OPQ tests. They can be very hard to get hold of if you want to do the training then pay the license fee. Luckily, you get hold of them through specialist consultancies - Quest Partnership I notice were mentioned above  - I have used them also - heres a link to their online testing centre where I got some really useful reports for online OPQ and also some SHL tests. They looked after all the admin too. They worked really well for our interviews

Hello Vince

If you need a SHL provider. I can provide you with their full suite. I would be interested in the costs from Quest. I am sure I could be competitive.

Dear Sharon,

I am a new member to the Personneltoday group, and saw your query on the use of an effective Psychometric tool. I realise that a few other members have responded to the question with the tool I have in mind. It is the Thomas International Assessment (DISC) which I have administered successfully to candidates for nearly 2 years.

Infact, in addition to the PPA (Personal Profile Analysis), they have another assessment called the HJA (Human Job Analysis). I have used both the assessments on candidates, and the graphs/ report has proven critical in the type of questions asked during the face to face interview.

The report does not tell you to go ahead or drop a candidate- but it allows you to take a peek into the personality (based on the level of Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance). Hence, you are the best judge of whether the candidate will be a right fit for the organization and the role under consideration.

Good luck in your search for the right tool, if not already decided!

Cheers,

Julie

Sharon

Further to your post, please feel free to call me on 07515 637 650 and I will happily give you my views on this subject. I am a qualified level B administrator (on a variety of tools) and have incorporated many of these into assessment processes.

I look forward to hearing from you.
