I work for a large outsourcing call centre provider, and we have various training and development teams around the business servicing our clients spread across different sites.

I have been working on a project to imporve the communication links of the teams and establish a virtual department where by the teams can share knowledge and best practice.

I was wondering if anyone has done anything like this before or if anyone could provide me with some creative ideas around how i could do this.

At the BBC we have a number of ways we share best practice. The four that come to mind are to
1. Interview key people who have specialist knowledge about their challenges, how they went about it, blocks that came up, how they overcame challenges, advice they'd give others, etc and then write that up as a case study which is posted on a special case study bit on your intranet.
2. Bring a team together with an independent faciliator. Agree with the facilitator what learning you most want to bring out. Run the session and then write up the key points and post on the intranet.
3. Do as you do here and have message boards where people can post up and reply to questions
4. Operate a site where all staff post up kep areas of expertise that they're happy to be approached on with email addresses.
The first two are the most valuable in my view since there are so many people who have neither the time nor inclination to participate online. The depth of sharing is also much better quality.
