Dear All,

We are just in the process of setting up a learning centre and library for our employees. Our functions are extremely varied from manufacturing, warehouse, sales and marketing, finance and supply chain operations, all of which we need to satisfy.

I am new to the e-learning and virtual learning centre concept but have been asked to source some providers who can offer a range of online courses and training materials.

Could anybody recommend any or advise of where i should look in order to do this?

Thank you for your assistance.

We are in the process of agreeing a range of e-learning resources through a company called SkillSoft who offer generic management and soft skills courses as well as tailoring courses where possible to your organisation.

Their website is www.skillsoft.com

Hi Sharon,

I have recently used a website called Vision2Learn (www.vision2learn.com) to do a course in Equality and Diversity. They offer free online training via local colleges as long as you meet the criteria (you have to be a UK citizen, some of the courses have other criteria as well). No attendance at college is required as the courses can be done over the internet. I found them really helpful and responsive.

Thanks
Sarah

Hi Sharon, I set up such a centre about 8 years ago. At the time I used Gee who also provided a number of pc's for the library as part of the deal. Staff could dial in 24/7 to access materials. The scheme was not as successful as I had hoped. Not because of Gee but despite being a technology business where I had assumed the staff would embrace e-learning concepts I found it was very under-utilised except for small pieces of blended training. The staff had been quite clear that for anything significant they wanted a classroom environment. Hopefully things have moved on a bit since then. Good Luck. Carole
