I have just started a new HR generalist role and have been asked to look into the issues arising from a merge of 3 departments. The individuals in question are in very similar roles so that aspect is simple however I am not sure where to start with evaulating the workload of the current departments. Without going into a full job evaluation procedure I need to calculate if we either need more staff or less.

Can anyone help with a simple answer to this issue.

Many thanks

Briefly, one way of doing this is to carry out observations covering all activities (7 cycle. i.e. observe each activity 7 times). The data would then be entered into an Excel spreadsheet from this you could then generate a 'load chart' for each individual(this would indicate how loaded each individual team member was). You would then reallocate task / activities to spread the load as necessary.
