Vicky and Sandy If you use policies and procedures from other companies, please be cautious. Good policies and procedures are best if they reflect your company and your company culture and style (so "upbeat" is good if it reflects your company). Employees should relate to them readily and understand them. An Employee Handbook sets the scene for the “psychological contract” between you and your employees. If it merely provides the legal contractual arrangements, it is a missed opportunity. Remember too that many companies’ policies and procedures are not fully up to date with legislation, some do miss opportunities, and others have flaws that can make life difficult; so you must be careful when starting from other people’s work. So is preparing an HR Manual / Employee Handbook from scratch the best use of your time? Possibly, not. There are a number of specialists who already have much of the work done already and therefore can focus on just the aspects that I’ve mentioned above. My own company, Employer Solutions, does exactly that and even puts the results online so that (via passwords) your employees can view them, search for subjects or download forms. |

Hi, If you do a search of the internet using a search engine such as google (type employee handbook) it will bring up loads of links to handbooks. The majority are further education establishments. Hope this helps. Michelle |

Hi Vicky, I'd be happy to send you an electronic copy of ours. I did the original one two years ago and have just updated all the polices in line with legislative changes for 2007. We also have seperate handbooks for our Telecanvassing units and factories - would be happy to send these along too. Let me know via my email.
Kind regards

I too am working to create a new Employee Handbook for a US financial company opening an office in the UK. There are not many employees but enough to warrant having policies and procedures in place. Can you provide me with examples to get me started? If so, email would work well. Regards, Cil |

Hi Everyone, My company currently have office in US, UK, and soon AU, with US being our corporate office. We have very different handbooks for the US & UK location, and I want to combine them. Our original handbook was modified from a UK based company before, and being new to the company, and new to UK laws, I'm overwhlemed by the amount of legal languages in our UK handbook. I want to combine the two so they read as if they are from the SAME company, but I want to make sure to keep all the REQUIRED UK laws/policies in tact. Does any of you work for an international company and have a sample combined handbook I can please have and use as a reference? Or perhaps a list of all the necessary legal UK laws/policies I MUST include for our UK location? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all so much in advance!! Wen |
