I work for a large retail organisation whose 'onboarding' process for new joiners can take in excess of 7 weeks, due to the fact that we insist on receiving references and all documentation prior to an individual actually starting with the company. I am concerned with this amount of time and am researching how other retailers bring their staff on board. I would be interested to hear how other retailers bring new staff onboard and how long it (typically) takes.
