Is there anyone who has had any experience with changing senior management notice periods? I am looking to increase there notice period. I would appricaite any advice on this matter and suggestions for tackling issues if the managers are not happy for the change to go ahead. |

A contract is a contract. No matter if they are senior managers or not. If their contract states they are to provide a certain amount of notice period then that is what they have to do. Likewise the company will have to accept the notice period laid down in the contract. If you want to change their contract then you will have to come to some agreement on new terms. |

| As with any variation of terms and conditions you will have to consult with the individuals concerned, get their agreement then give notice of the change all confirmed in writing. | |||

Hi It may be simpler to change the terms & conditions for new employees joing from this date forward, and protect the existing Managers on current notice period. You may also wish to consider implementing a policy that persons being promoted/moving to a new role will change to the new notice period. This has worked well at my place of work Regards Ethan |

| The principle for changing any terms and conditions of employment are the same.It has to be negotiated with the senior managers in this case ,and can only be changed with their approval.If they are on fixed term contracts however ,when their contracts come up for renewal ,the changes can be brought about then.The alternative is to terminate their contract ,and offer them the new contract with the new conditions.The reasons for terminating their contracts will have to be for reasons of E.T.O.That is economical,technical or operational reasons.I hope this helps. | |||

Hi Pauline I have done this on several occasions and to be fair it is not all that that hard as long as you take open honest approach and in many cases it is even easier with senior managers than with less junior members of the company. Entering into consultation with senior managers on how they are valued members of the management team and fundamental the future development of the businesses and as a result the company would like both parties to have greater security in the working relationship and to build a long term foundation (egos duly massaged) normally not a problem in my experience |
