Could I get some advice on SSP?  I have employee who was absent from Dec 06 they have completed a SC2 form from HMR&C as a self cert for the first 7 days (contractual then a doctors note should be submitted, this has happened). Doctors notes are up until the end of Jan, does the three waiting days apply to the self cert or from the doctors note?

How much is SSP?

The 3 waiting days will apply to the self cert - the self cert forms the initial part of the employees certified absence, so as long as drs notes continue to be submitted in a timely manner ssp is payable for 26 weeks.

SSP is £70.08 for a full week (£11.68 per day)

SSP is actually payable for up to 28 weeks - from 6 April 2007 it will also rise to £72.55 per week.

The daily rate of SSP is dependant on the number of days the employee is normally contracted to work.
