Hi

I am an Indian citizen residing as a dependent of a work permit holder (my husband). I am working full time as Personnel Assistant of a multinational company in Oil & Gas Industry. I have got my diploma in electrical engineering and now would like to study HR. I have over 5 years of experience in the development sector. HR is of my interest and i would like to get a degree (CIPD) which will help my career.

But my problem is course fees of the Universities which i cannot afford. I discussed with my company to sponser my studies but was denied. How can i develop my skills if i do not have the knowledge for it. It is very frustrating as i want to learn more but cannot find any oppurtunities as my tasks are very adminisitrative and mundane.

I would be grateful if you could suggest a solution for this please, or any scholarsip programes which can fund for my studies please.

Thanks and regards

MILI

Hi Mili

You do not need a degree of CIPD qualification to continue your career in HR - although many will say you do.  Many HR directors are not members of the CIPD mush less have CIPD qualification. (I should say that as a FCIPD I would encourage this route I recognise that it is financially prohibitive for some).

Look at the CIPD site and universities that offer the qualification. Use this to build your own development plan. If you like you can even write assignments as though you are on a degree.  Cover the material well. Then when you have completed this you will be able to get a higher position. Companies buy people with knowledge not just qualifications (well in the UK they do India is different).  Then you can apply for accreditation of prior learning to get your qualification at a later date.

Hope this gives you a few ideas

Good luck

Mike
