I've just begun my first foray into the world of HR as a graduate. I studied an economics/maths degree at university which I completed last summer. I started working at the start of this year. I'm looking into different training for a graduate. I know a lot of people will do the Professional Development Scheme provided by CIPD but I feel I don't have much experience in HR to relate this to. I was considering the Prince's Trust Team programme as well as the Columba 1400's Coracle programme to do in my first year and then begin the PDS scheme in my second when I have more experience. Does this sound like a good idea or are there any alternatives that are worth thinking about? For example, doing the CIPD now to obtain a bit more HR knowledge before I get the experience or doing a more suitable course in the first year. I really appreciate any help or advice you can give me.

Hi Rob Sorry I am unable to answer your question, but I wondered what your experience of being a graduate in HR has been like so far? I am currently applying for graduate schemes and know that one of the questions employers often ask is "what do you think you will be doing in your first year?" I'd be keen to hear what you've been doing etc. Thanks |
