Within our IT Policy we have said that we do not want employees to use business PC's for personal internet useage and that if they want to do this we have some cyber Pc's which people can use in their own time- we have just done some analysis and some sites are being accessed for personal use but it is in lunch time ( from their desks). Our thought is that oter companies are more flexible to this subject and are we being to inflexible within our policy.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Hi Wanda,

I feel your thoughts are correct.  Is it right to penalise and potentially discipline hard working employees who choose to use th internet during their lunch?

What about all those days when a full lunch isn't taken but quickly checking BBC or personal email is done?

Trust has to be considered and fair usage should always apply.  (I'm pretty sure PT did an article on this recently).

Trust or Big Brother?  I know which I would prefer.
