Does anyone have any advice on this subject?

I am moving abroad next year and my employers are fully aware of my intentions as I have made no secret of it. I am only required to give one month's notice however I would like to hand my notice in now, 3 months in advance, for a number of reasons.  One is that I feel it will give me some focus to tie up outstanding projects knowing I have a date to aim at, there are also some internal changes coming up and I feel the organisation would benefit from the knowledge of exactly when I am leaving.

My question is, if I officially hand my notice in now giving a date 3 months from now would my employer be able to force me to leave after only one month which is all that is required of me. I can't find any information on this anywhere so am hoping that you can help me.
