Hi All, I have a part time employee who works Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday every week. I have reduced his holiday allowance proportionately but with this bank holiday weekend am now unsure whether (as these are his normal days off) we owe him those days back? Also nearly every other bank holiday falls on a Monday. What is my obligation with regards to this? Any ideas will be appreciated Many thanks Emma

You need to pro rata 8 bank holidays for this employee i.e. 8/5 x 3 days = 4.8 days bank hol allowance in addition to his normal allowance. When a bank holiday falls on a Monady or Friday you do nothing. If a bank holiday falls on a Tues/Weds/or Thursday and he takes the day off then simply deduct from this new allowance. If he works the bank holiday on a Tues/Weds/Thursday then once again you do nothing. This is how I deal with it for part-time staff. |
