Introduction of Pay and Grading Adam 01/04/2008 16:52

Hi,

At present we do not have a system of grading in the company for which I work, but one is being introduced.  It seems likely I may be "red circled" so my pay is protected for one year and will then be reduced.

My question is, if I have not agreed to this in writing, or even verbally, can it still be done?  I have read about a somewhat similar case where an employee at a company already had a pay grade and chose to take a lower grade rather than take redundancy.  In such a case I can see that the employee has agreed to the reduction in grade and related salary.  However, I have no grade and it seems that one will be assigned to me with a drop in salary without my consent.

Is this legal?

Thank you for your help.
