Rights to redundancy - "suitable alternative" HF1903 08/05/2008 14:32

My employer has just been taken over by a PLC under the TUPE regulations.

My job at the moment is that of a sales manager and buyer which I have been doing for a number of years.

Today I have been told that the new employer only wants me to act as a sales manager.  I will no longer be involved in the buying process and will have no say in the stock that they provide.  Before I would travel to trade fairs/trade shows, meet with suppliers, place orders with companies and their sales reps, etc, etc.  They are arguing that the role they have offerred me is a 'suitable alternative' but I feel that they are obviously reducing my responsibilities and the level of authority that i have within the company.  I have told them my view and that i feel in the circumstances I am entitled to redundancy.  They have made it clear that they are not offering redundancy.

Any advice that anyone could offer would be much appreciated - I do have the chance of another job elsewhere but am worried that if I just give in and leave that I will have lost my entitlement to any redundancy payment.
