Hello, I have recently left my job to start a new role, handing in my notice was fairly straightforward. I have only been in the new job a couple of days and find that the senior role I applied for is now a junior role, less responsibility and nothing like the way the job was adverstised. Bearing in mind they have had over 5 weeks to advise me of any changes but havent, I havent as yet received a contract. Obviously I hope to speak to the senior director, to clarify this, I know what i would like to say, but wonder were do I stand legally, as I have practically now lost my previous job. Basically the role amounts to a demotion and a loss of responsibilities. I have all the paper work to prove what the job was offered at and how it was advertised. The reason i ask this is because, on my first day one of the other manager mentioned in front of other staff, that he would sack me if i didnt do what i was told, it was a little leftfield as nothing had been said that would require a response like that, i put it down to bravado, I responded quite jokingly that he wasnt my boss, his response was that i would see...I thought his a little strange! Where do i stand, should hand my notice in and become unemployed or give them an ultimatum, hope fully with the law on my side |

Hi, im afraid not (not from this site anyway). Basically I just bit the bullet, I let the senior people reponsible know that i wasnt happy and that I considered it unfair, this worked but I get the distinct feeling it was lip service. As the person who resolved it has now left, and thing are very much different. In the end it amounts to bravery, go in take a deep breath and explain why you are unhappy, make notes (i did). Basically I the resolution was I no longer report to the person mentioned and I have found (as i expected) I am having a better working relationship with my director. Now I am looking to move ( i know i put all the work and effort in but life is to short) I can only wish you the best of luck 'm'
