Please help me. I received a letter this morning from my employer saying that they have dismissed my grievance. I am currently signed off with stress and anxiety.
Here are the things that have happened:
1. I was signed off work with stress for 2 months 2. My Manager turned up at my door without any notice 3. Three days before going back to work I got a letter saying I had to attend a disciplinary hearing about my absences and performance while I was still signed off with stress. 4. I wrote letter postponing the disciplinary went to see a solicitor who told me to put in a grievance as my manager has been treating me unfairly. 5. I sent the company a grievance letter 6. I received a letter from the company offering me a meeting with different locations e.g. coffee shop, my home etc 7. Went to see doctor who said I cannot attend any meetings and my doctor wrote a letter to say that any work meetings will add to my stress illness 8. Wrote letter to employer saying I cannot attend the grievance meeting due to stress and included letter from doctor. 9. Signed off for a further 1 month by doctor 10. Got letter a few days ago saying my grievance has been dismissed as I have not been able to attend the meeting.
I am not sure what to do next?
There is not reference to meeting in the company grievance policy. There is not reference to home visit in the sickness policy.
Please can you help me. I was just thinking about resigning. If you could help and give me some advice on what I should do that would be wonderful. Thanks loads, Kay |

First of all I must stress that I have no expert knowledge in employment law and your solicitor would be the best person to advise you. It does sound like a case that could be brought to an industrial tribunal –– particularly if your manager has been harrassing you at home while you were off sick. It also sounds as if you haven't been given a fair opportunity to pursue your grievance. I suppose a lot would also depend on the outcome of your disciplinary hearing. I would strongly advise you to discuss this with your solicitor. |
