| Traineeships - 2 year contract...allowed??? | HRO on her own | 21/07/2008 13:57 | |

I have recently joined a new company where I am responsible for all HR issues. There are only about 100 staff members. I have been contacted by one of the Head of Departments who would like to take on a Trainee for 2 years. This would allow the individual to obtain the necessary qualifications in their field and then progress onto another organisation. The HoD would then like to take on another trainee. My only concern with this, is that this will be a 2 year fixed term contract. At the end of the 2 years, there will NOT be a position for the trainee to fill. Their position (traineeship) will be readvertised and we will follow the cycle again. Are we OK to do this? Or will be be dismissing him at the end of the 2 years unfairly? (following the correct 3 step procedure of course) Thanks in advance for your assistance with this matter |
