As many might be aware, one of the most interesting areas developed relatively recently on the subject of psychology is Emotional Intelligence. Apart form the pioneering book in the 90s, these days you can find many course and resources on the topic.

However, despite all these recent trends, the topic seems to have been below the radar in most companies and corporations and it seems that most employees are not really aware that EQ is potentially more important that IQ.
Most of the interview processes, educational exams, even training are focused on professional skills and not much on 'emotional skills'.

Do you think this will change in the near future? Are managers going to start realising that the long term benefit of an emotionally skilled employee is probably greater than the one who is good at logic but cannot communicate with others?

I have always been an advocate of such soft skills and I believe in conjunction with IT skills they can increase the productivity of an individual many folds. We use this philosophy in our training course materials and it has proved to be successful.

Would be interested to know what others think.
