I recently (7 weeks ago) started work with an employer. I never received a contract during that time. I have decided to leave the company and wrote to HR giving one month's notice. They have replied that they only need one week's notice and therefore only pay me for that one week. Because there is no contract can they do this? Regards

Yes they can Graham, in the absence of a written agreement to a lengthier notice period then after such a short period of service only a week's notice is needed. Paul
