Unfair Redundancy? David 13/08/2008 16:40
Hi I work as Retail Deputy Manager in the UK. I am being made redundant because company is doing away with deputy managers to save monet. My problem is that I don't believe i was given a fair opportunity to progress within my company during the 3 years I was with them as a Deputy Manager. All staff are mean't to have monthly performance reviews and then a 6 month and yearly appraisal, these are then used to formulate succession plans for each manager and used to assist area managers in choosing who gets promoted etc. In the 3 years I have worked for the company i had one 6 month and one yearly appraisal and no monthly reviews at all. When finally my store manager left the company, his postion was filled from another store without ever being advertised internally. So i was not given the opportunity to apply. My problem is that my only yearly appraisal was this spring and it was only average, where as the 6 monthly one i had last June (2007) was as good and i got the top score. I feel i have not been given any chance to progress within the company through jobs not being advertised and other deputies being performance managed correctly. A few of the deputy managers are being kepy on but because of my bad appraisal I wont be. Do I have a case to raise a grievance and possibly take it to a tribunal?

Please excuse my poor spelling and grammar in the above post. I typed it far too quickly.
