Alarm bells over working conditions

Working conditions in Europe are getting worse, not better, with more
work-related health problems coming to light, research has found.

The first results of the third European Survey on Working Conditions,
carried out by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and
Working Conditions, has shown problems related to health, the pace of work and
working are continuing to rise.

Many in Europe are working in difficult circumstances, with one in three
complaining of backache related to their job.

One of the most striking findings was the intensification of work, which had
risen sharply over the past 10 years, with people working shorter hours but
much faster, the survey also found.
