Barclays bans casual clothes in dress code for bank staff

Staff at Barclays bank have been told to make sure they are dressed properly at work or face disciplinary action.

In a memo to employees at a branch of Barclays in Basingstoke, Carla Stent, chief operating officer of Barclays Asset and Finance, banned items of clothing including denim, t-shirts with logos, shorts, flip flops and sportswear.

She said: “We want to be seen as a professional and successful financial services environment. It is important, therefore, that all employees dress in an appropriate manner at all times.”

“Please be aware that if you choose to ignore the dress code, you will be asked to remedy the situation that day,” the memo said.
