Big contracts secure top place in managers’ priorities

Bosses are willing to sacrifice family commitments and personal pleasure to secure a big deal, a survey has found.

More than one-third of the 300 managers surveyed by Bibby Financial Services would cancel a family holiday.

More than half said they would call off a wedding anniversary dinner and most would work as late as required to ensure their firm won the contract.

It found that determination was considered the most important attribute for a successful businessman or woman.

David Robertson, chief executive of Bibby Financial Services, said: “Owners and managers must be careful that this [type of behaviour] does not become the norm in their everyday business lives.”

The survey also revealed most came up with their best ideas on the way to the office rather than in the boardroom.
