Bosses say redundancy is good for productivity

One-third of employers believe redundancies have made their organisations more productive.

IRS research of 89 employers, 78 of which had made one or more redundancies over the past two years, found two-thirds believe their company managed redundancies well or very well. But nearly 60 per cent said redundancies led to lower morale.

Sixty respondents made suggestions as to how the redundancy process could be handled differently in the future.

One-third felt that communication or consultation could be improved. However, many employers were confident that their consultation procedures will comply with the forthcoming implementation of the Information and Consultation Directive in March 2005.  www.irsemploymentreview.com, 020 8686 9141
