Bus workers put off strike to consider new pay offer

Strike action by more than 400 bus workers at Stagecoach East Midlands scheduled for today (Friday) has been suspended to allow a new pay offer from the company to be put to RMT members.

RMT members were due to strike for the next four working days at depots in Chesterfield, Mansfield and Worksop. An overtime ban due to begin today also been suspended.

RMT general secretary, Bob Crow, said: “Our members made it quite clear with a massive mandate for strike action that they would no longer tolerate low pay at Stagecoach East Midlands.”

“That determination has brought the company back to the table with a significantly better offer, and after consulting the negotiating committee the RMT executive has agreed to put it to the members with a recommendation that they accept it.”
