The
number of call centre employees will rocket from 500,000 to 640,000 by 2005,
according to a report by research company Datamonitor.
The
report says call centres employ 1.7 per cent of the UK’s working population,
but the sector will continue to grow, rising to 2 per cent by 2005.
The
growth will see another 2,000 call centres join the 6,000 already in the UK.
Datamonitor
reports 90 per cent of call handlers are employed within the customer service
arms of large corporations such as banks and utilities.
