CBI moves to support Rover dealers

Digby Jones, CBI director general, has been appointed chairman of a sub-group to consider the impact of recent events at MG Rover on dealerships and other retailers.

The car manufacturer called in administrators last week after talks with the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation on a possible joint venture to save the company collapsed.

“The future viability of the dealerships is a critical element to the MG Rover equation, and the needs of these 300 businesses must be taken into account as decisions are made,” Jones said.

“They employ around 8,000 workers across the country who have been extremely loyal to the Rover brand over the years and deserve every effort to secure their futures.”
