The course content and learning materials are delivered online through a ‘global campus’ – so candidates can work at their own pace, although they are expected to take the five compulsory modules in their first year. Candidates work in ‘learning sets’ guided by a personal tutor.
The certificate is aimed at operational managers who wish to improve their management skills. Candidates do not need to have previously taken any formal qualifications to undertake the certificate, but they do need to be working full or part-time as a manager within an organisation, or as a consultant.
Students undertake five core modules in the first year and this is followed by one optional module. In addition, a module called ‘Managing Yourself’ is developed over the duration of the programme to explore roles, values and beliefs in different organisations and to encourage students to set their own career goals. The five compulsory core modules include: managing information, managing change, managing teams, managing finance and managing for quality. Students will also need to complete one other module from a choice of: managing operations, managing projects and managing the market. The final part of the certificate is a case study that brings together the skills students have developed in the core modules. The assignment takes the form of a formal report and candidates are expected to draw on experiences from their own organisation, as well as wider examples, to illustrate their answers.
The aim of the certificate is to develop key management skills that reflect a candidate’s current or future role in management. The Cambridge-accredited professional management qualification is recognised internationally.
