Cost of staff absences to business is rising

Staff sickness and absence from work cost business £10.7bn
last year, according to research by the CBI.

A total of 192 million days were lost because of illness,
family commitments or other reasons, such as low morale. This is equivalent to
7.8 days per employee.

The CBI research shows that 3.4 per cent of total working
time was lost last year. Public sector workers took an average of 10.2 days
off.
