CRE names prison probe head

The Commission for Racial Equality has announced who is to head its formal investigation into racial discrimination in the prison service.

Racial equality commissioner District Judge Ray Singh, a member of the commission since 1996, will be in charge of the probe. The CRE has nominated three other commissioners to sit with Singh on the investigation panel: Beverley Bernarde, Kamaljeet Jandu and Patrick Passley.

The commission is also assembling an investigation team which includes outside expertise.
