Criminal Records Bureau investigated over delays

The
National Audit Office (NAO) is to investigate the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)
over delays employers have faced in having background checks on prospective
staff processed.

A
spokesman for the NAO said the investigation was under way and he expected the
report to be published in the summer.

The
CRB, which was set up in March last year to carry out background checks on
staff applying to work with children or vulnerable adults, has faced criticism
over its failure to cope with the huge number of applications.

It
has also mistakenly matched 400 people, referred by their prospective
employers, with convictions.
