Fail to comply with health and safety and ‘feel the heat’

The government has warned businesses that fail to comply with health and safety law they “will feel the heat” from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Speaking at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health’s (IOSH) conference last week, minister for health and safety Lord Hunt said: “Britain has one of the best occupational health and safety records in the world.

“[But] the HSE’s strong messages about risks are backed up by equally robust enforcement when those risks are willfully ignored – those who don’t see the light will feel the heat.”

IOSH figures show that 35 million working days are lost each year due to health and safety failures, costing UK companies £9bn.
