Goverment launches new skills helpline

A new skills hotline for businesses to improve the skillset and qualifcations of staff has been launched by the government today.

The helpline, provided by the government’s flagship skills brokerage service Train to Gain and employer advice organisation Business Link, will offer free advice to help businesses identify where key skills are lacking in their organisation.

Skills minister Lord Young said the helpline was a sign of commitment by the government to helping businesses weather the downturn.

“The challenging economic climate means it has never been more important to ensure that employers get access to the support and advice they need – quickly and easily,” he said.

Last month, the CBI called on the government to fast-track access to the Train to Gain programme to help businesses.
