Graduates on board for fast-track council careers

Cambridgeshire County Council has employed 11 new trainees on its graduate
development programme.

The trainees (right), who were among 566 initial applicants, will take part
in a variety of projects around the council as well as working towards
appropriate professional qualifications to help fast-track them into management
positions.

The council’s director of resources Mike Parsons said: "This scheme is
very important to Cambridgeshire County Council and helps ensure we have a
continuous supply of first-class managers with the personal attributes and
professional qualifications to cope with the ever more complex and changing
responsibilities of local government."

The scheme has been running for two years for accountancy trainees, but was
expanded two years ago to include HR, general management, IT, property and
planning qualifications.
