Grocery trade introduces management skills course

A
new training scheme in the grocery trade has been set up to help develop staff
and groom future senior managers.

The
Institute of Grocery Distribution has introduced the Foundation Certificate in
Management for junior managers and staff who are new to the sector.

Sainsbury’s
has been quick to get involved, sending 46 employees on the course, which
covers a wide range of roles including manager trading, customer service and
stock control.

Jackie
Watson, talent director at Sainsbury’s explained why the company decided to
take part in the scheme.

"We
are delighted to be able to offer our aspiring junior managers the opportunity
to take part in the course. It’s important that future senior managers are
exposed to the key issues in the wider trading environment, enabling them to
think outside their day-to-day roles," she said.

The
course has been accredited by Manchester Metropolitan University and will
provide essential background knowledge and help develop career skills.

Learning
is based on workshops, assignments and a project with the best candidates
qualifying for a cash prize and a trophy.
