I was very pleased to see an article that provided some sound advice on handling the media (‘How to handle the media’, Personnel Today, 21 April).
Media relations is a vital part of any employer brand, in good times and bad. Yet HR teams are often wary of engaging with journalists, and don’t know how to use media relations to further their agenda.
Good PR is one of the easiest ways to get the great work organisations undertake as employers out to both prospective candidates and customers, as well as protect its reputation when times are difficult.
It’s time for HR teams to start talking to their communication departments about what they can do to help get the employer brand out to the world, and not lost as part of their corporate communications.
Now more than ever, HR deserves to shout loudly about the difference it is making to the business.
