‘Irrepressible fanatasist’ loses unfair dismissal claim

A
doctor who was suspended and then resigned over concerns that he was an
‘irrepressible fantasist’ has lost his claim for unfair dismissal.

Employers
from Halton Hospital
in Cheshire
suspended Sushant Varma after he changed his name
to James Bond, lied about appearing on television show Blind Date, and claimed
to have been involved in several heroic rescues.

Varma, a house officer, also had
grimreaper666@deathsdoor.com as his e-mail address.

An
employment tribunal in Liverpool
said his employers had acted properly in suspending the doctor.

Varma said he would appeal.
