Old technology causes more stress than new technology, according to a major
report by the International Stress Management Association.
The report found that 19th century machines, such as trains and cars, were
the big culprits, especially during recent transport problems.
Only 20 per cent of respondents said new technology caused information
overload and stress, and 52 per cent strongly disagreed with that suggestion.
Commuting to work was considered more stressful than anything else by 45 per
cent of respondents. Carole Spiers, OH consultant and chair of the National
Stress Awareness Day committee, said the occupational health damage caused by
long journeys to work had been underestimated.
