Workers at Cadbury’s Somerdale plant at Keynsham, near Bristol, are at risk of losing their jobs, despite new owner Kraft’s earlier pledge to keep the factory open.
According to the Times, the plant is to close, with the loss of 400 jobs.
Cadbury had announced plans to close it this year, moving production to Poland, but Kraft told shareholders it “would be in a position to continue to operate” the factory.
Jennie Formby, national officer at Unite the Union, said: “Kraft was being very irresponsible to talk about changes at Somerdale. Some of the workers have had their hopes raised by Kraft management, and if they are going to lose their jobs, that is shameful”.
US food manufacturers bought Cadbury last month, for £11.4bn.
