Mechanics charge more than barristers and doctors

A mechanic often charges more an hour than a doctor or barrister, according to a new survey.

Taking your car to a garage can prove costlier than seeking legal advice, the poll of 200 car dealers by What Car? magazine showed.

The hourly rate paid to a mechanic is usually between £49 to £140, compared with £30 to £100 an hour for a junior barrister after five years’ training.

And after five years at university, three years at a hospital and one year as a GP registrar, a locum doctor typically earns between £44 to £63 an hour.
