More travel chaos looms as Eurostar terminals face strike action

Members
of the UK’s
biggest rail union at Eurostar’s Waterloo
and Ashford terminals will strike for 24 hours on 28 August in their dispute
over pay and grading.

“Unequal
and unfair pay have no place in any modern transport system, and our members have
made it clear they will no longer tolerate it,” said RMT general secretary Bob
Crow today.

“Our
members have given a clear mandate for strike action and the executive today
agreed that there will be a 24-hour stoppage on 28 August.

“The
company knows that it can avert strike action by coming back to the negotiating
table with a fairer and more equitable offer that addresses our members’
concerns over low pay and pay inequality,” he said.
