National Council for Voluntary Organisations proposes shared human resources managers for small charities

Small charities could soon be able to share human resources managers under plans being drawn up by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO).

Proposals by the NCVO’s Collaborative Working Unit would see smaller organisations combine to share HR managers, buy services from larger organisations, or procure them from a consortium of suppliers.

Third Sector magazine reports that the NCVO will run pilots later this year, helping councils for voluntary service in the Midlands provide HR services to charities.

Gareth Coles, information officer at the unit, told the magazine: “Small organisations tend to deal with HR issues only when they become a problem. Then they start having to pay legal fees to find that expertise.”
