Navy HR chief pays tribute to Nelson

This week marks the 200th anniversary of Admiral Nelson’s famous victory at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805.

Next week, Personnel Today will feature an exclusive interview with the Navy’s head of HR, vice-admiral James Burnell-Nugent – the most recent admiral to fly his flag on Nelson’s ship, the Victory.

As second sea lord, he is responsible for Royal Navy and Royal Marine personnel policy issues; as commander-in-chief Naval Home Command, he has executive responsibility for recruiting, manning and most on-shore training.

He tells Personnel Today how captaining nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers helped prepare him for leading the Navy’s HR, and why it still has a lot to thank Nelson for when it comes to people management.
