New proposals could increase workers’ rights

Workers’
rights may be massively extended under radical new proposals.

They
are believed to include eight days extra holiday for many workers, and cash
benefits for new parents.

The
Daily Mirror newspaper claims trade
and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt outlined plans for guaranteed time off
on Bank Holidays and a major extension of maternity and paternity leave in a
move aimed at winning a third term for Tony Blair.

The
reforms are to go before the party conference next week.
