More than a million young people will be without a job or college place this summer, research has found.
The number of young people not in education, employment or training, known as ‘neets’, will pass the million mark for the first time this summer, research by the Local Government Association (LGA) revealed today.
And many of those involved will be left behind when the economic recovery begins, including highly skilled teenagers, the LGA said.
It has called for early intervention to identify those most at risk, and asked that councils be given more freedom to run their own training courses.
