The new director-general of
City & Guilds has claimed that vocational education needs to be overhauled
if it is to serve business.
“Vocational education has for
too long been treated as a poor relation to academic education. A major review
of vocational education is needed if it is to serve business in the future,”
said Chris Humphries.
He wants a fundamental review
of the educational system for 14 to 19 year olds and a radical change in adult
learning.
“If business is to compete and
we are to raise our game as individuals we need nothing less than the
renaissance of vocational education and a minister to make sure it happens,”
said Humphries.
