Retired detectives could boost depleted ranks in Sussex

A
record number of resignations from the Sussex Police squad has forced HR chiefs
to consider calling back retired detectives.

The
lucrative salary and free transport offered by the neighbouring Metropolitan
Police service has lured at least 15 experienced detectives away in the past
two months.

The
subsequent shortfall has led Sussex police to consider a scheme that would
recruit around 30 retired detectives back into the force.

Bosses
at Sussex hope to have the budget required to pay for the move approved in
February and are negotiating with bus and rail providers for discounted travel.
