RMT appeals to Mayor to avert Tube strike

The RMT union has called on London mayor Ken Livingstone to intervene to avert a second strike on London Underground scheduled to begin at 18:30 on Sunday, after informal talks at Acas broke down yesterday.

Tube drivers have already staged a 24-hour strike on New Years Eve in a dispute about a new roster system.

The union offered to suspend action in exchange for the suspension of new rosters that London Underground intend to introduce in February.

The RMT claims the new rosters will leave many stations dangerously understaffed and have called for them to be suspended for a couple of months while proper safety validations are carried out.
